Paisley University becomes Talis's 100th Customer. October 1999. Paisley University became Talis’s 100th Customer when it selected Talis for its new Library Management system. The event was celebrated at the recent Library + Information Show at the NEC with Stuart James, University Librarian and Tony Hall, Managing Director of Talis.

Morningside College Selects SIRSI. Huntsville, AL, October 15, 1999. Morningside College, a private liberal arts college located in Sioux City, Iowa, has selected Sirsi Corporation’s Unicorn Library Management System for its Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Library Center. According to Daria Bossman, director of Library Services, Unicorn will provide students, faculty and community members with a World Wide Web-based graphical online catalog and library staff members with a singleWindows-based interface for performing a wide variety of administrative functions, from circulation to serials control.

The City of Loretteville has chosen Best-Seller's e-Library Networks software to publish its varied library collection on the Internet and to provide worldwide access. Taking advantage of a government initiative to link the province's libraries together in one virtual library network via the Internet, the City of Loretteville Library chose Best-Seller's PortFolio software to provide the link to the other libraries and to manage all aspects of its local operations.

Macintosh Library Automation Users Hit the Jackpot with New Product Line Release from Follett Software Company. McHenry, IL, October 13, 1999. School Districts Nationwide Choose SIRSI. Huntsville, AL, October 8, 1999. Government Publications now Accessible to Texas School Libraries through Auto-Graphics' Catalog Service : Online Access to Powerful Resource Tools Available to "Virtual Network" of State School Libraries. Pomona, CA, October 7, 1999. Auto-Graphics Inc. (OTCBB:AUGR) today announced it has provided the Texas Library Connection (TLC) with cataloging records for federal documents from its Government Documents Catalog Service (GDCS). Auto-Graphics has integrated GDCS records into the TLC database where they are accessible via Auto-Graphics’ Impact/Online WebPAC. This technology will enable K -12 library staff, teachers and students Web access to a variety of materials published by the Federal government including direct Web links to full-text information resources.

To celebrate the end of the millennium, COMPanion Corporation, developer of Alexandria library automation systems, announced a promotion today that gives libraries a free single user version of Alexandria. This promotion represents a $2200 value.

DRA Increases Allocation to Stock Repurchase Plan. St. Louis, MO, October 1, 1999. Data Research Associates, Inc. (DRA) (NASDAQ: DRAI) announced today that its board had authorized an additional stock repurchase in an aggregate amount of up to $2 million. From time to time over the next twelve months, DRA management may, at its discretion, make purchases in the open market and through privately negotiated transactions, subject to general market and other conditions.

SIMA, Inc. introduces "SIMANET." October 1, 1999. SIMA, Inc. recently introduced SIMANET, an Internet connection that offers SIMA customers the option of running their licensed SIMA OCAT Electronic Library and Serials/Acquisitions 2000 software on off-site servers located at SIMA’s Northern Virginia offices. Customers will need only an Internet connection, Web browser, and connected printer to perform all SIMA programs tasks, including searching for data, adding new titles and records, editing databases, deleting information, and printing lists, reports, and labels. Communication will be via a secure Virtual Private Network and user names and passwords will prevent unauthorized access to customer databases. The advantage of this innovative concept is that SIMA customers are relieved of the burden of installing and maintaining SIMA software on local computers or networks servers and will no longer have to deal with the inevitable problems that occur with computers and network installations.

SIRSI Announces Alliance. Huntsville, AL, October 1, 1999. Sirsi Corporation announced today that it has entered into a strategic business alliance with CEA Capital Partners, a private equity firm that invests in media, communications and information service companies. The alliance was formed to extend SIRSI’s leadership position, according to SIRSI Chief Executive Officer Jim Young. The partnership will enable SIRSI to pursue more aggressively new business opportunities, as well as to make strategic investments in and acquisitions of other synergistic companies and technologies. As a result of the alliance and the continued wide acceptance of its popular Unicorn™ Library Management System, SIRSI expects to assume a dominant role in the library technology market.

Marymount International School and the Keats Shelley Memorial House in Rome, Italy; Notre Dame Elementary School, York Catholic SB Education Centre and Blessed Trinity School in Aurora, Ontario, Canada; and the Landswest School Division in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, Canada have recently awarded SIRS Mandarin, Inc. contracts to provide the SIRS Mandarin M3 Library Automation System to libraries in their schools and institutions.

Electronic Reserves Earn Falvey Library All-Campus Award. Des Plaines, IL, September 21, 1999. Daniel Deneweth Appointed Director of Technology of CARL Corporation. Denver, CO, September 2, 1999. CARL Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Deneweth as Director of Technology. Deneweth will be responsible for managing CARL's IMDS (Information Management and Delivery System) and Special Projects Development teams, and will coordinate resources for other company-wide technology projects.
