Endeavor Signs New Library Consortia in the West Indies. Des Plaines, IL, October 27, 2000. Endeavor Information Systems announced today COSTAATT, the Colleges of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago, has chosen the Voyager integrated library management system for the libraries of the six campus system. Voyager allows the COSTAATT libraries to share a common database for resource sharing, coordinated collection development and effective use of existing resources. The COSTAATT libraries hold approximately 28,150 volumes with individual library collections ranging from 150 titles to 7,000 titles.

Houston ISD choose the Alexandria Library Automation System. Salt Lake City, UT, October 26, 2000. COMPanion Corporation announced today that Alexandria library automation was chosen by Houston ISD, the largest public school system in Texas and the seventh largest public school system in the United States. Houston ISD’s library automation project is one piece of a major effort to advance, improve and modernize libraries throughout the district.

Today Institute of Physics Publishing, IOPP, announced their implementation of the OpenURL within their Electronic Journals service. The OpenURL is an emerging standard for the transportation of metadata between an Information Resource and a service component such as SFX from Ex Libris.

Washington D.C. Public Schools Choose Follett Software Company to Automate Capital’s School Libraries. McHenry, IL, October 18, 2000. The District of Columbia Public Schools has selected Follett Software Company to automate 150 school libraries with the company’s award-winning Windows software. The new plan will bring automation to the entire district for the first time and meet the district’s goal of providing equal access to all the library collections from the Internet. It will also simplify circulation, reporting and cataloging for D.C.’s staff.

DRA Confirms Discontinuation of Contract Negotiations With Harvard. St. Louis, MO, October 12, 2000. Data Research Associates, Inc. (DRA) confirmed today that Harvard University is no longer negotiating a contract to install DRA's Taos system as the basis for HOLLIS II, Harvard's next-generation library automation project. DRA President and CEO Michael J. Mellinger noted that the Taos system, which has a high level of flexibility and is scalable to any size library, is currently being actively implemented at both new and existing customer site

MassCat - A Venture of 5 Regional Library Systems in Massachusetts Awards Contract for Internet Resource Sharing to Auto-Graphics, Inc. Pomona, CA., October 12, 2000. Auto-Graphics, Inc. announced that it has been awarded a preliminary contract to provide a statewide bibliographic database in Massachusetts. This contract includes the Northeast, Southeast, Metrowest, Central, and Western Massachusetts Regional Library Systems, the five regional library systems that make up the MassCat network.

Karen L. Odean to Receive Alexander J. Skrzypek Award from ILA. Chicago, IL, September 20, 2000. Karen L. Odean, Director of the Talking Book Center of Northwest Illinois, was recently selected as the 2000 recipient of the Alexander J. Skrzypek Award. The Talking Book Center recently converted to the Keystone Library Automation System, KLAS, from DRA. Ms. Odean was instrumental in creating a smooth transition from DRA to KLAS.

STAR 3.8 adds XML and ADO Open Standard Interfaces. STAR version 3.8 adds to and improves STAR 3.7 by adding a number of new features. Among the most important are the additions of two open standard interfaces that will greatly extend the power of STAR to operate in multi-application or multi-platform environments. They allow customers to integrate access to STAR databases into their own programs using non-proprietary interfaces.

Harris County Public Library Looks Forward to epixtech’s Horizon Library Automation System. Harris County, TX. Since everything in Texas is large, when Harris County Public Library, which serves the county in and around Houston, makes a move to a new automation system, it’s a big move. However, because Harris County is moving from epixtech’s Dynix system to epixtech’s newer Horizon system, the librarians and staff are sure this move won’t be as painful.
